17 April, 2019

City of Wolverhampton Council has today, seized its 7th vehicle used to dump household waste on city streets.

The blue transit van has been caught on CCTV with the driver dumping rubbish at fly tipping hotspot, Drayton Street in Wolverhampton.

The fly tipping consisted over 20 household items including sofas, car seats, clothing and bagged waste.

The vehicle has today been seized at its registered address at Mason Street in Blakenhall and currently being held as evidence.

Ross Cook, Director of City Environment at City of Wolverhampton Council said: “Fly tipping is a serious crime that will not be tolerated.

“This is now the 7th vehicle seized by the city council this year for fly tipping and it won’t be the last.

“We are committed to tackling fly tippers and will take all necessary measures to stop this criminal behaviour and to keep Wolverhampton a clean and attractive place to live, work and visit.”

The City Council has contacted the registered keeper for an interview under caution regarding the fly tipping and to claim the vehicle. If the registered keeper does not come forward to claim the vehicle the Council will keep it to sell or dispose.

The seizure follows the launch of the City Council’s ‘Shop a tipper’ campaign to clamp down on fly tippers in a bid to put an end to fly tipping in the city.
